The latest concept shops are shifty

Pop-up shops have proven to be an effective way to introduce unfamiliar products to new markets, and now traveling stores are following suit. These are not retailers on wheels, but rather brick-and mortar-spaces that purposely migrate, allowing for maximum visibility without the commitment of a long-term lease.
CRYBABY Presents:
Los Angeles’ trendy neighborhoods are so scattered, it’s often hard for storeowners to choose a location. For this reason, RISD grads Dakota Solt and Lisa Ziven decided they weren’t going to tether CRYBABY Presents, their new nomadic boutique/gallery, to one place. Holy Smoke, the first installation through which designers and artists can exhibit and sell their work, opened this past weekend across from American Rag on La Brea Ave. Solt and Ziven curate every item in the store, which includes works of fine art, fashion, product design, music and film. Though the location will change every couple of months, the online destination remains rooted.
100 Days Boutique:
Berlin, every aesthete’s mecca, is the ideal city for avant-garde Danish fashion designer Henrik Vibskov to have launched his 100 Days Boutique concept store. As the name suggests, the store will feature Vibskov’s outre wares for 100 days at a time, beginning with his “The Eat” A/W 11/12 collection. Moving locations with every season will allow Vibksov to customize each installation for its particular space, showcase props from his presentations, and display pieces that don’t make it into his shows. He has plans to travel the store to fashionable neighborhoods all over the world, perhaps redefining what it means to be a “global brand” along the way.
Store on Tour:
This fall, Urban Outfitters is sharing its in-store experience with Gen Ys across the nation whose experience with the store has, thus far, been limited to its online version. The retailer has partnered with Dockers Alpha Khaki, DRY Soda Co and Tortoise & Blonde Eyewear to produce its first ever Store on Tour, a roving approximation of the trend emporium. In addition to selling UO stock, Dockers will curate a gallery of original artwork created with khaki, DRY will provide refreshments, and Tortoise & Blonde will be sampling and selling their family-owned company’s frames. Together they will tour South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee to locales where Urban Outfitters has never gone before.
